Wal-Mart? Probably Not.

Has anyone out there ever tried speed dating? You know, you go to the bar, sit at a table, and every 5 minutes someone comes and sits down for a chat. You now have 4 min and 59 sec to sit through a sort of interview to find out if the person in front of you has any potential. (To be honest, I think 5 minutes is WAY too long. I can smell potential, let alone take 5 minutes to think about it!) huh? oh yes. Speed dating. A friend of mine tried this and she enjoyed it, but I don't know. I think I'd rather do the online thing (match.com, eharmony.com) Either way you end up with a good story. Which one would you prefer?

(Do people ever meet in bars or libraries or grocery stores anymore? If so, I must be going to the wrong ones!)

Yeah, I read about Walmart having singles shopping, but it's not really here in the US yet. I would prefer speed dating because you get to see them in person, and you can get a lot more from seeing them and talking to them rather than reading a profile. But speed dating is usually only in larger cities. I empathize with your problem!

I prefer to meet a man at a bar. You see them drunk with their buddies. Usually they do something stupid and you get to see how they handle themselves. I think online everyone is on their best behavior.

Hmmm, well sweetie - let's look at the options you gave. First there's "speed dating". Let's be honest, this is pretty much entirely based on physical appearance (which let's face it, is pretty important - especially to men). I mean - how WELL are you going to get to know someone in 5 minutes? Exactly.

Then you suggested the "online thing". I have actually read a few profiles and here were my observations:
A. The guy comes across as:
1. The writing ability of a 5 year old (Date. You. Me. Yes.)
2. Sounds like a serial killer.
3. Sounds like a thug (Hey, Yo, I'm lookin 4 a sweet thang to kick it with. You down?)
B. They are only looking for an "athletic build, blonde w/blue eyes". Which ironically, you could probably pull off.

Supposedly, the story is to NOT go looking. And POOF he'll be there.

Then again, you never know. Ah, sometimes I really enjoy being a Jaded Hopeless Romantic.

Hi-I just found your blog from a comment on Okay, Seriously. I like your writing style.

Not saying its a good thing, but I've met several of my long term boyfriends at work. My husband being one of them.

Of course, when things crash and burn, it can be uncomfortable. (like jamming a pen in your eye)
